Celtic are weighing up a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Cole Campbell on an initial loan deal with the option to buy, sources have told Football Insider

The Bhoys have identified the 20-year-old as a clear summer target, as they bid to add greater quality in the wide areas.

Campbell is also subject to interest from clubs elsewhere in Germany, which means that it is unlikely to be straightforward for Celtic to win the race for him.

Dortmund have set their asking price at £6million for the USA youth international, and sources have indicated that Celtic are unwilling to go that high for him this summer.

However, Martin O’Neill and Co. are considering the idea of a move to take Campbell on an initial loan, in order to see how he adapts to the Scottish Premiership.

The youngster spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim, but made just five Bundesliga appearances across a challenging loan spell.

Cole Campbell facing pivotal summer at Borussia Dortmund

Campbell made just one senior appearance for Dortmund’s first team in the early stages of last season, and has largely been unable to break through in recent years.

His stint with Hoffenheim also didn’t have the desired effect, as he failed to establish himself as a regular at Bundesliga level.

He is now facing a pivotal summer for his long-term future at Dortmund, as he has just two years remaining on his contract with the German giants.

Bundesliga newcomers Elversberg are among those chasing his signature over in Germany, while the option of a move to Celtic could also potentially be on the table.

Dortmund are already clear that he will not be part of their first-team plans for 2026-27, and are open to the idea of either a permanent or a loan exit.

They look to have priced Celtic out of the former, but the latter route could yet prove a viable option for the Hoops to sign Campbell.

Sources: Celtic work on Miguel Chaiwa deal but won't pay asking price

Celtic chasing £5m deal for Miguel Chaiwa

Football Insider revealed last week that Celtic are only looking to bid as high as £5m for Hibernian midfielder Miguel Chaiwa this summer.

The 22-year-old starred for the Edinburgh outfit last season, and has already emerged on the radar at Parkhead as a key midfield target.

Hibs have placed a £7m asking price on Chaiwa this summer, but O’Neill and Co. still have hope that a cut-price deal could be on the table for them.

They are expected to test the resolve of their Scottish rivals imminently, with Hibs braced for offers from the Glasgow giants in the coming weeks.
