Sources: Ermin Mahmic to Celtic update revealed
Celtic will find it “difficult” to secure a deal for Slovan Liberec’s Ermin Mahmic this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Hoops have been heavily linked with the 21-year-old attacking midfielder in recent days, who is valued between £6million and £6.8m.
However, alongside Celtic, Mahmic has attracted interest from multiple clubs in Italy as well as Besiktas after his wonderful performances in Czechia and in the 2026 World Cup.
As a result, while the youngster is on the Old Firm club’s “radar”, he is not a player that they are actively trying to bring in at the moment.
Martin O’Neill is looking to bring in another midfielder this summer, with Arne Engels set to move to West Ham United.
Celtic will have money to spend as well going into the final weeks of the window, but a move for Mahmic seems unlikely at present.
Are Celtic missing a trick by not pursuing harder for Ermin Mahmic?
Mahmic is no doubt one of the best upcoming talents in Europe at the moment.
The attacking midfielder was excellent in the top-flight of the Czech Republic last season and then went on to score another two goals in the 2026 World Cup for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Therefore, while it would no doubt be a difficult transfer for Celtic to pull off, if they manage to bring him in, it would be a significant coup.
If Celtic are to progress into the Champions League’s league phase at the end of the month, this could end up going a long way to convincing Mahmic to join the Old Firm side.
However, it remains to be seen if the Hoops are able to achieve this feat.
Who else are Celtic chasing this summer?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Celtic are pursuing a deal for Hearts’ Claudio Braga this summer.
The Hearts attacker was superb in Scotland last season and won the Scottish Premiership Player of the Season.
Braga has been heavily linked away this summer, with Rangers also reportedly holding interest.
However, Celtic could now swoop in for the 26-year-old striker, who netted 14 goals in the last campaign as Hearts finished second.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Jambos would be willing to lose yet another one of their stars after much of their squad was dismantled this summer.
