Sources: Greg Taylor to Celtic update as cash in place to seal deal

Celtic will only make a move to re-sign PAOK left-back Greg Taylor if he is content with being a back-up option at Parkhead, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Bhoys man has fallen firmly out of favour at PAOK, and has been deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Alessio Lisci.

Celtic are understood to have the necessary finances to make the deal happen, and are hoping to see their coffers boosted further by qualification for the Champions League.

Sources have indicated that the ball is in Taylor's court in terms of a return to Celtic Park, with Celtic only prepared to offer him a role as backup to Kieran Tierney.

The 28-year-old also has reported interest from the likes of Burnley and Malaga, who are both prepared to hand him the chance to leave Greece.

The defender made over 200 appearances for Celtic across a six-year spell in green and white, before departing for PAOK last summer.

Celtic banking on Greg Taylor changing his stance

Taylor's decision to move away from Glasgow came largely as a result of Celtic's reunion with Tierney last summer.

The club pulled off a coup by tempting their former star back from Arsenal, and promptly handed him a lucrative five-year contract.

Taylor opted to move away knowing that his game time was likely to be cut as a result, but things simply haven't worked out for him in Greece.

He made just 18 appearances for PAOK in all competitions last term, and his place in their squad is now under major threat at the start of the new campaign.

However, with Celtic's starting left-back spot already nailed down in Tierney, they are relying on a change of stance from Taylor compared to last summer.

If he remains unwilling to play second fiddle to Tierney, then there would be little benefit in a return for either party.

Celtic to 'drive everybody mad' with plan after Arne Engels sale

Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness recently told Football Insider that he only expects Celtic to spend around 50 per cent of the money that they bring in from selling midfielder Arne Engels.

The Bhoys have recently rejected two bids for the 22-year-old from West Ham, after previously turning down £25million from Nottingham Forest back in January.

Wyness believes that the club have no intention of reinvesting the full fee that they ultimately secure for Engels, and expects that plan to "drive everybody mad."

The Celtic fans have been demanding further investment from the board this summer, but the club are still being conservative with their business.
