Sources: Gvidas Gineitis wants Celtic move as key to deal revealed

Celtic target Gvidas Gineitis is keen to get a move to Parkhead over the line in August, sources have told Football Insider.

The Torino midfielder is interested in the idea of a move away this summer, and Celtic are pushing to secure a deal for him.

Torino have placed a lofty £12million valuation on the 22-year-old, but are prepared to cash in if a club can put the money on the table.

Sources have indicated that Celtic securing qualification for the league phase of the Champions League could hold the key to the deal being done.

The Bhoys are due to meet LASK in their two-legged play-off clash, with the second leg taking place one week before the 3 September transfer deadline.

Martin O'Neill and Co. are hoping to get their move for Gineitis over the line by then, and are also likely to have the player on side when it comes to their pursuit.

Football Insider revealed on Monday that Celtic are preparing to launch an improved bid for Gineitis, after seeing their opening offer knocked back by Torino.

The Glasgow giants have identified the Lithuania international as a "key target" to bolster their midfield ranks before the end of the window.

Celtic are keen to avoid paying the full £12m for Gineitis, and it is understood that Torino would "find it hard" to turn down an offer that comes close to their valuation.

If they were to hold Celtic to the full £12m, then it would set a new club-record purchase for the Hoops.

Gineitis has been identified as a player with huge potential to develop in the future, and already has over 70 appearances in Serie A to his name.

With Arne Engels expected to depart Celtic Park in the coming weeks, the club are considering their midfield options, and Gineitis is firmly among them.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider last week that his former club are hopeful of winning the race to sign Engels this summer.

The Hammers have already seen one offer for the Belgian rejected, and are battling interest from the Premier League and across Europe.

Brown believes that Nuno Espirito Santo will tempt Engels with promises of game time and ambition, with the club desperate to return to the top flight at th first attempt.

Engels started for Celtic in their win over Dundee on Monday night, but it is still expected that he will move elsewhere before the end of the window.
