Who is Dinko Horkas? Everything you need to know about Celtic’s potential next number one
Celtic have been heavily linked with Las Palmas’ number one goalkeeper Dinko Horkas in recent days.
The Hoops are in desperate need of a new number one after Kasper Schmeichel left the club at the end of the season.
As a result, the 27-year-old has emerged as a strong contender to replace the former Denmark international, according to reports.
Horkas just missed out on promotion to La Liga last season after losing in the playoffs with La Palmas.
Now, he could make a move to the Scottish Premiership as Martin O’Neill looks to defend the title.
Below, Football Insider has outlined everything you need to know about Celtic’s potential new number one.
Who is Dinko Horkas?
Horkas started his career at HNK Segesta, before he made the switch to Dinamo Zagreb’s academy in 2011.
The goalkeeper would progress through the ranks at the Croatia outfit, and eventually become a regular in their second team.
In 2020, the former Croatian Under-21 international was sent on the first of a series of loan moves.
He’d first be sent to Zrinjski Mostar, before later picking up experience at NK Varazdin and HSK Posusje.
In 2022, he would permanently leave Dinamo Zagreb and sign for Bulgarian club PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv.
Here, he would become a regular and kept 20 clean sheets in 52 matches in all competitions.
His form would also see him earn the Player of the Season Award in 2023, before he made the switch to Las Palmas in 2024.
Originally joining as the second-choice keeper, he eventually broke into the starting XI at the backend of his first season as Las Palmas fell into the second tier.
In the 2025-26 campaign, Horkas was the Spanish club’s first choice as he kept 14 clean sheets in 43 games in all competitions.
How good is Horkas?
According to Fotmob on 3 July, Horkas had an excellent campaign in La Liga 2 last season.
Overall, he was averaging a save percentage of 72.1 per cent, conceding 0.96 goals, keeping 0.32 clean sheets and preventing 0.09 goals per 90 minutes.
He is also exceptional on the ball, completing 74.3 per cent of his passes, while also creating 0.10 chances per match.
However, it remains to be seen if the 27-year-old can replicate these stats in the Scottish Premiership this season if Celtic were to complete the signing.
