Kenny among four senior Celtic players who won't be there next season - Whelan

Noel Whelan claims that none of the four players on loan at Celtic have done enough to earn a permanent move.

In exclusive conversation with Football Insider, the ex-Scottish Premiership striker predicted that Mohamed Elyounoussi, Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Jonjoe Kenny will all be shipped back to their respective clubs

Elyounoussi (Southampton), Duffy (Brighton) and Laxalt (AC Milan) were all signed in the summer, while Kenny (Everton) was a mid-season recruit.

Kenny has played the full 90 minutes in every match since he arrived but the remaining three have just three starts between them since 1 February.

Whelan has been thoroughly unimpressed with the quartet and claims that they will be the first to go amid a top-to-bottom overhaul of the club in the summer.

He told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs: “The loan players that are there aren’t going to sign permanently. There will be a complete change-up with some of these players.

“There’s gonna be so many personnel changes at the club. Changes at the top of the board, changes in how the club is run, changes with players.

“Clearly, some of the players can’t do it, they are not good enough. Whoever comes in permanently, they’ll make that decision.”

Celtic were eyeing a tenth successive league title at the start of the season but now trail runaway leaders Rangers in the Scottish Premiership by 18 points.

Interim manager Jonh Kennedy could officially see his side cede the title to their rivals at Celtic Park when the two teams meet on 21 March.
