Championship: Supercomputer makes new Leicester relegation prediction after loss vs Portsmouth

Championship strugglers Leicester City are increasingly likely to be relegated this season after a dismal weekend of results in their quest to survive the drop.

The Foxes were beaten 1-0 by fellow relegation-battlers Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday as substitute Ibane Bowat netted a winner just after the hour mark.

Gary Rowett’s side are now on a run of just one win in their last 18 games and sit eight points from safety with just three games left to play this season.

Charlton, West Brom and Blackburn Rovers each picked up points over the weekend, alongside Pompey, to move further away from Oxford and Leicester in the drop zone.

They are running out of time to pick up points and survive a shock relegation to League One, with Opta‘s latest supercomputer update reflecting their woes.

Leicester are now 97.66 per cent likely to be relegated from the Championship

Leicester were deducted six points earlier in the season, yet can not blame the penalty on their demise, as eight points now separate them from 21st-placed Blackburn.

Sources have told Football Insider that Leicester still have legal issues and so they could be in line for more sanctions next season.

Harry Winks was filmed clashing with their fans after the game at Fratton Park, with the Foxes now staring relegation in the face ahead of three tough fixtures against Hull, Millwall and Blackburn.

Opta has given them a 97.66 per cent chance of relegation to League One, with Rowett’s side expected to pick up four points between now and the end of the season to finish on a total of 45.

Oxford are also predicted to succumb to relegation, with an 80.16 per cent chance as it stands after they lost to Derby County on Saturday.

Blackburn only have two games left to play this season, but have a 15.02 per cent chance of being relegated, while West Brom are given a 3.6 per cent chance as it stands.

What are Opta’s Championship promotion predictions?

Coventry sealed promotion to the Premier League on Friday night with a 1-1 draw against Blackburn.

They will hope to win the second-tier title ahead of the competition, with Ipswich currently backed by Opta to clinch second place.

The Tractor Boys have been given a 58.6 per cent chance of being automatically promoted to the top flight, with Southampton their closest predicted rivals as Opta hand them a 20 per cent chance of coming second.

Millwall, Middlesbrough and Hull City are set to make up the playoffs alongside the Saints, according to Opta.
