Charlie Crew could earn Leeds United chance vs Brighton as Ethan Ampadu a ‘major doubt’
Charlie Crew could take advantage of Daniel Farke’s latest injury update ahead of Leeds United‘s clash against Brighton.
The 19-year-old made his senior debut during the 2024-25 campaign, but having been sent out on loan to Doncaster Rovers since then, he hasn’t made another appearance at Elland Road.
That could be about to change on Sunday, 17 May, however, with the Seagulls visiting West Yorkshire in the penultimate game of the season, especially with the club’s Premier League safety already confirmed.
Crew is clearly an impressive talent, one who deserves a chance to impress Farke, and the latest injury setbacks should give him more than enough opportunity to stake his case this weekend.

Farke has already confirmed that Ilia Gruev, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Noah Okafor and Jayden Bogle will be unavailable, with Pascal Struijk yet to train ahead of the weekend’s fixture.
It is also understood that Ethan Ampadu is ill, and Beren Cross has described him as a “major doubt” due to this. The Welshman has been an ever-present in midfield over the last three seasons.
Farke has been somewhat unpredictable with his team selections this term, and that could continue against the Seagulls, with Ao Tanaka and Sean Longstaff unlikely to be the partnership in the middle.

| 2025-26 | 11 | 0 | 1 |
| 2024-25 | 13 | 0 | 0 |
All signs point towards a positive outcome for Leeds’ 19-year-old academy gem, and there is barely any risk attached to the decision, given that Leeds are already safe from the relegation battle.
Facundo Buonanotte has run out of chances to impress
Another reason why Crew could make the step up this season is that Facundo Buonanotte is unavailable for the game, given that he’s currently on loan from Brighton this season.
He’s failed to get on the bench for the last three games, and before that, he wasn’t able to get off the bench in four consecutive matches. It’s been a season to forget for Buonanotte.
Much like Harvey Elliott at Aston Villa, Buonanotte has wasted the last six months of his career, and he now only has one game to get his career back on track. But it seems impossible right now.
He can’t play against his parent club, and with West Ham United on the final day, Farke will be far too focused on ending the season on a positive note rather than handing a game to a fringe player.
