Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has praised West Ham manager David Moyes for the way he has turned the team around, but believes they will lose the EFL Cup quarter-final tie with Arsenal tomorrow.
The Hammers are unbeaten in their last three Premier League matches, including impressive wins over champions Chelsea and Stoke which have lifted them out of the relegation zone.
Moyes’ side now face a tough test against Arsenal in the last eight of the League Cup at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow, just six days after the holding them to a goalless draw in the Premier League.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has played a weakened side in the EFL Cup so far this season and Nicholas expects him to continue that trend tomorrow.
However, he still believes they will have too much quality for the Hammers and is predicting a relatively comfortable 2-0 win for the home side.
“Arsenal will play some of the kids again but I can see them wearing the visitors down, with the quality of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott being enough to get the job done,” Nicolas told Sky Sports.
However, Nicholas praised Moyes for the job he has done at West Ham since replacing Slaven Bilic at the London Stadium last month.
“The tools were there with the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Winston Reid, who was being touted as a £20m signing for Liverpool 18 months ago, but it has been impressive how quickly he’s got them all pulling in the same direction,” he said.
West Ham are now up to 15th in the Premier League table, two points clear of the relegation zone and face 18th-placed Newcastle in a crucial match in their next league game on Saturday.
In other West Ham United news, Hammers fans have reacted to the news that Manuel Lanzini has been charged with diving against Stoke.
