Sources: Charlton Athletic agree to sign Sunderland midfielder Dobson
Charlton Athletic have agreed to sign Sunderland midfielder George Dobson, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The London-based League One club have swooped for the 23-year-old after he spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon.
A Charlton source has told Football Insider that Dobson has agreed terms and a transfer is set to be finalised soon.
Dobson has a year remaining on his contract on Wearside and returned to training with the rest of Sunderland’s first-team squad this week.
Dobson featured 29 times on loan at AFC Wimbledon in League One in 2020-21.
He signed his first professional contract with West Ham in 2016 before making his senior debut in a loan spell with Yeovil Town the following year.

Dobson’s career then took a left-field turn when he signed for Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam in 2017.
He made nine appearances for the Dutch club before returning to the UK to join his old loan club Walsall in a permanent deal.
The midfielder was relegated from the third-tier in his second season with the West Midlands outfit.
But he would remain in League One after signing for Sunderland that summer.
Dobson is accomplished as a conventional central midfielder and in a more defensive screening role.
He featured 29 times in his first season with the Black Cats as they narrowly missed out on a play-off spot.
He was a fringe player for the first half of the 2020-21 campaign before joining Wimbledon on loan in January.
A late resurgence in form helped the Wombles beat relegation by four points.
Charlton Athletic meanwhile missed out on the play-offs only on goal difference last season.
Midfielders Darren Pratley and Andrew Shinnie were named on the club’s released list in May.
