Chelsea backed to seal deal for Antonio Rudiger replacement after £40m report- pundit

Alan Hutton has tipped Matthijs de Ligt to replace Antonio Rudiger at Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa defender claimed that De Ligt would be a better fit for the Blues than Nathan Ake.

Real Madrid confirmed (2 June) Rudiger’s move following the expiration of his contract at Chelsea.

According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport (26 June), Chelsea have already had a bid of £40million plus a player rejected by Juventus for De Ligt.

Chelsea are also believed to be interested in signing Nathan Ake.

According to The Telegraph (27 June), the Blues are in talks with Man City for a Raheem Stirling and Nathan Ake double deal.

Hutton has claimed de Ligt would be a better option than Ake for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

“De Ligt has played at such a high level and he’s done a lot for somebody that’s only 22,” he told Football Insider.

“Rudiger was such a key part of Chelsea’s back line and what they did that they need to try and get a like for like player.

“I think you have to bring somebody like that in, to replace Rudiger and play at that high level week in week out, and he [de Ligt] could possibly do that.

“Ake is a really good player and he knows this level, but he’s been a bit unlucky at Man City. So I think de Ligt would be the one to replace Rudiger. He’s had the big move from Ajax to Juventus and he’s played at that level. “
