Chelsea backed to sign Wesley Fofana after £42m deal agreed - pundit
Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Chelsea should now move on to negotiations for Leicester centre-back Wesley Fofana after missing out on Jules Kounde.
The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, urged the Blues to stop getting “embarrassed” by clubs in the transfer market after also losing out on Raphinha earlier this summer.
Barcelona confirmed an “agreement in principle” with Sevilla for the signing of long-term Chelsea target Kounde on Thursday (28 July).
According to The Guardian (27 July) the Catalan giants will pay €50million (£42million) for the France international’s services.
The report claims Chelsea could now turn attention to Fofana, 21, but Leicester may demand a fee of £85million.
Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have departed on free transfers this summer, while Cesar Azpilicueta has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona.

Agbonlahor backed Chelsea to move for Fofana despite his horrific leg break last season.
He told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “I rate Fofana highly, even if he has had his injury problems.
“But it’s got to come to a stage where Chelsea stop getting embarrassed in the transfer market. It happened with Raphinha, now it’s happened with Kounde.
“Chelsea are a big club, and they should be moving on to other targets a lot earlier. These players always wanted Barcelona – that was clear.”
Fofana has five years left to run on his Leicester contract after signing a bumper extension earlier this year.
Football Insider revealed on Thursday (28 July) that the Foxes must sell players this summer before they can make any moves of their own in the window.
