Chelsea could sack Thomas Tuchel within days after confirmed news - Agbonlahor

Chelsea will not sack Thomas Tuchel if they fail to beat Liverpool in Saturday’s (14 May) FA Cup final, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed the club’s new owners will have stern words with the 48-year-old if he goes through the season without a domestic or European trophy.

Chelsea confirmed in the early hours of Saturday (7 May) that terms had been agreed with a Todd Boehly-led consortium to take over the club.

It comes as the strains off the field seem to have shown their signs on the pitch with the Blues currently on a run of just one win in their last five Premier League games.

Asked whether Tuchel’s job is on the line when his side face Liverpool at Wembley, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “I don’t think so.

“There are new owners coming in and they will definitely give him a chance but they will make him aware that it has been a disappointing season.

“Liverpool are favourites for the FA Cup so if Chelsea lose that it’s a season without silverware. You can’t count the Club World Cup, we’re talking about European or domestic trophies.

“That’s not what Chelsea are about, Chelsea are about trophies.”

Chelsea got to the FA Cup final and won the Champions League at the end of last season after Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard in January 2021.

This season they were beaten by Liverpool in this EFL Cup final and were knocked out by finalists Real Madrid at the quarter-final stage of the Champions League.
