Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is on the target list at Chelsea as they plot a new addition between the sticks, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has been identified as a potential signing by club chiefs at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca, who was appointed last month, wants a new goalkeeper capable of playing out from the back and starting attacks deep inside his own half.

Lunin made 31 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid last term amid a serious injury for Thibaut Courtois.

The Ukraine international consigned Courtois to the bench in both legs of Real's Champions League semi-final win over Bayern Munich, but in a new twist - the Belgian will be first choice again in the 2024-25 campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti's decision has left Lunin weighing up his options and Chelsea are interested in handing him more first-team opportunities in the Premier League.

The 25-year-old will also be reeling from a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign which saw him dropped after the first game - a 3-0 thrashing against Romania.

Lunin has less than 12 months to run on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu after joining from Zorya Luhansk in 2018.

He has picked up experience on loan at Leganes, Real Oviedo and Real Valladolid.

Kepa Arrizabalaga spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan in Madrid and could be used as a makeweight in the deal as he is set to leave Chelsea permanently this summer.

The future of Djordje Petrovic is also under question as the Blues plot a new goalkeeper signing.
