Armando Broja may want to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place amid uncertainty over the future of Romelu Lukaku, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker admitted he had been blown away by Broja's loan spell at Southampton in the 2021-22 season.

Sky Sports reported on Wednesday (8 June) that Chelsea are in talks with Inter Milan over Lukaku potentially returning to the San Siro on loan.

The 29-year-old made the switch in the opposite direction for a £97.5million fee last summer (2021) but Inter cannot afford to re-sign him on a permanent deal.

Meanwhile, a West Ham source told Football Insider earlier this month (4 June) that they have made Broja a top target in the summer window.

"I rate him [Broja] highly," Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

"He might look to himself and think to himself 'You know what? I can do better than West Ham'.

"He was that good for Southampton. He's a physical presence, he gets in behind defenders and can finish.

"He might be looking at it and thinking 'I can do better than West Ham', himself.

"West Ham will have to check if he even wants to come to them because he might want to play in a higher European competition.

"He might want to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place."

Broja has only played one senior game for Chelsea - a four-minute appearance from the bench in March 2020.

He signed a new contract with the Blues last summer (2021) that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2026.
