Chelsea ‘over-promoted’ Liam Rosenior as ‘official statement’ soon proved ‘wrong’ – Keith Wyness
Chelsea players were not satisfied under former boss Liam Rosenior which led to his sacking at Stamford Bridge.
That is according to former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, after Rosenior departed Chelsea after only 107 days in charge.
Rosenior, who had taken up his first Premier League job when appointed as Chelsea manager, left the Blues following a 3-0 defeat at Brighton.
The 41-year-old left the club outside the Champions League places, and had faced internal issues with both Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella.
Calum McFarlane has taken over Chelsea until the end of the season, looking to salvage their season by winning the FA Cup and qualifying for Europe.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that performances on the pitch also contributed to Rosenior’s sacking alongside poor results.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes the situation shows how things can change quickly at Chelsea.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The results were always the thing. You go back to Tommy Docherty’s great quote of all time when he said that it’s the media that got me fired, because they kept printing the results.
“In that case, Liam Rosenior can blame the newspapers for printing the results, but there was just a general feeling within the club that it wasn’t so much the results, it was the manner of losing. The squad were completely unhappy with him. They weren’t having him.
“They didn’t believe he was the stature of a manager that they felt they needed and respected. That’s really what did it in the end and that translated into results. So I’m afraid it’s a case of perhaps being over-promoted to a position.
“Just a few weeks ago, the owners were making all these statements about saying he’s going to be here next season, how quickly things change and Chelsea getting that wrong again.”
Who could replace Liam Rosenior as Chelsea boss?
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Antonio Conte could return to Chelsea for a second spell in charge.
Conte led the Blues to the Premier League title during his first spell at Stamford Bridge, and is currently manager of Napoli, where he won Serie A last season.
The 56-year-old is known for implementing discipline in his squads, and Chelsea’s young side could benefit from an experienced manager.
Conte is joined on Chelsea’s shortlist by Andoni Iraola, Cesc Fabregas, and Felipe Luis, with an appointment set to be made at the end of the season.
