Chelsea are readying a sensational swap deal offer for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants are in the market for a marquee number nine and are willing to push the boat out to sign the England international.

Chelsea and Villa have held extensive talks throughout the summer over multiple transfers, as the Blues initially pursued Jhon Duran while Villa have tried to sign Conor Gallagher.

However, Watkins is next on the agenda for the six-time champions as they continue to try and push for a new striker.

Chelsea are willing to offer Gallagher plus cash to secure the 28-year-old this summer.

Villa have been interested in Gallagher for some time, but Football Insider previously reported that the midfielder isn’t keen on the move.  

Chelsea would benefit from Ollie Watkins’ goals

Chelsea have notoriously struggled in the striking department in recent seasons, with last summer’s signing Nicolas Jackson being wasteful in front of goal.

Watkins finished last season as the fourth top goalscorer in the Premier League with 19 goals and is a proven threat.

Currently on international duty, the Villa striker scored a sensational goal in the European Championships semi-final to secure England’s route to the final.

Chelsea

Watkins also offers a level of versatility due to his ability to play both left and right wing, although he has predominantly been a striker throughout his career.

The 28-year-old has scored 59 goals in 146 Premier League appearances, having previously thrived in the lower divisions.
