Expert: N'Golo Kante may now push for Chelsea exit after 'huge' talks update

N’Golo Kante may now be prepared to leave Chelsea in order to play in a less physically demanding league.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Kante, 31, has missed the Blues’ last six matches in all competitions with a hamstring injury.

The French midfielder, who joined from Leicester City in 2016, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.

The Athletic reported on Monday (12 September) that he recently knocked back a two-year contract offer and wants a longer deal.

Previous manager Thomas Tuchel, who was replaced by Graham Potter last Thursday (8 September), suggested that the World Cup winner’s injury record would have a bearing on negotiations.

His injury record is definitely part of the conversation,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“I’m not saying his injury problems have been blown out of proportion because they are a huge part of the player we have seen in recent years.

We went from someone who was everpresent to someone who has now started only just over 55 per cent of Chelsea’s league matches over the last three seasons.

This needs to be considered as part of those talks. You can be the best player in the world but it doesn’t matter if you’re not available half of the time.

The new owner drives a hard bargain and, while they don’t have a lot of football experience, they are business savvy. It could be that Kante wants to look elsewhere, maybe a less demanding league.
