Chelsea told to 'drive Timo Werner to the airport' after talks development - pundit

Chelsea should “drive Timo Werner to the airport” and let him go this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Werner is not suited to the Premier League and his confidence looks drained.

The London Evening Standard reported earlier this week (2 August) that they are in talks with RB Leipzig to send the 26-year-old back on loan.

He will have to reduce his wage demands or Chelsea may have to cover a portion of his wages to facilitate his move back to his former club.

“Werner, they should drive him to the airport because he’s nowhere near good enough for the Premier League,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“That’s why Newcastle haven’t tried to get him or any Premier League clubs have tried to get him.

“Especially with the wages that he might be on and the loan fee.

“He’s very quick but he hasn’t got the composure in front of goal, he just doesn’t look like he’s got the confidence.

“Sometimes leagues don’t suit you. There have been lots of players who have come to the Premier League and struggled, he’s not the first.

“Maybe another league will suit him.”

Werner has scored 23 times and provided a further 21 assists in 89 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea since his initial move from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020.

The Germany international is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2025.
