Chelsea should pounce on deal for 'unbelievable' Leeds man, he's a 'dream of a player'
Xabi Alonso could soon be knocking on the doors at Elland Road, as one Leeds United star continues to steal the headlines.
Chelsea stunned a lot of football fans during the summer with their transfer tactics, signing Danny Welbeck, 35, and Jordan Henderson, 36.
The new manager was clearly searching for some much-needed leadership at Stamford Bridge, and Daniel Farke has that in buckets in West Yorkshire.
Wales duo Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon are joined by Jaka Bijol, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Justin in the Whites' leadership group this season.
It is Ampadu who has taken the captain's armband for 2026-27, and it is not just at Elland Road where he is looked up to as the most experienced.
The 26-year-old has been seen as Wales' future captain for quite some time now, and he certainly plays like it on the pitch for Craig Bellamy.
Chelsea could swoop for Ethan Ampadu
While Wales' clash with Denmark on Sunday, 4 October, ultimately ended in defeat, there were still some good moments, most of which came through Ampadu.
After popping the ball about and controlling the midfield, Nathan Blake was simply in awe of the midfielder and his calmness in possession.
Live on BBC Radio Wales (4 October), he said: "Ethan Ampadu is unbelievable isn't he? What an absolute dream of a player."
Where do Chelsea come into this? Well, Football Insider understands that, while unlikely to happen, the Blues are interested in re-signing the Welshman.
Leeds have no plans to cash in on Ampadu, but Alonso may have no choice but to push for his signature, given some of his own struggles in midfield.
What did the Leeds United star's stats say vs Denmark?
Not being able to get at least a point in front of the Red Wall would have been a huge blow, and Bellamy is seemingly under pressure.
There were no issues with Ampadu's performance, though, as he took control in a 91-touch display at the Cardiff City Stadium [FotMob].
He completed 56 per cent of his long balls, made four tackles, two clearances, and five recoveries, as well as entering into 11 total duels.
Ampadu is an absolute warrior and deserves all the praise he gets. Unfortunately for Farke and Leeds, that could mean losing him again.
