Chelsea will be active in the transfer market looking to buy and sell players after the club recorded a record-breaking loss.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states that Chelsea are relying on player trading to bring money into the club.

Figures by UEFA revealed that Chelsea made a pre-tax loss of £342million across the 2024-25 season, with the club having previously sold their women's team and hotels to bring in revenue.

Chelsea's financial position could worsen if the club do not qualify for next season's Champions League, with Liam Rosenior's side currently fifth in the Premier League table.

Chelsea at financial 'crunch point'

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs - believes Chelsea will be "very busy" in the summer transfer window.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness states that the Blues have enough resources behind the scenes to conduct lots of player trading.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “They've done things like the hotels and the women's team, et cetera, to cover the gap at the moment.

"They got lucky with the Club World Cup. But now it's coming to a crunch point and it's going to be all about player dealings.

"Now we all know they've got multiple sporting directors, so they've got enough people there to do it, but can they execute? But they're going to be very busy in the market, in my opinion.”

Nicolas Jackson update revealed

Chelsea have been dealt a blow as sources have told Football Insider that Aston Villa may not look to sign Nicolas Jackson in the summer.

Aston Villa could turn their attentions to other targets rather than sign the 24-year-old, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich.

Jackson will also not be moving to Bayern Munich on a permanent deal, meaning Chelsea face a challenge offloading the striker to bring in much-needed revenue.
