Geovany Quenda faces extended spell on Chelsea sidelines - verdict
Geovany Quenda was handed his first start of the season against Tottenham, and the Chelsea attacker may have to wait a while for his next.
Xabi Alonso's side were extremely poor against Tottenham, with the absence of Joao Pedro quite noticeable.
With the Brazilian ruled out, Morgan Rogers was deployed to lead the line, with Portuguese attacker Quenda asked to cover in the Englishman's position.
It was a rare start for the 19-year-old, and a proper chance to push his way into more minutes this season.
However, at Stamford Bridge, he ultimately failed to deliver, being one of Alonso's worst performers in the 2-0 loss.
And that should bring uncertainty over his next full involvement in a match.
How Geovanny Quenda failed to deliver in Chelsea vs Tottenham
Replacing Joao Pedro is no easy task, but Quenda did not even scratch the surface of what a Chelsea forward should do.
Perhaps it was due to his lack of starts, and the winger is feeling rusty on the pitch.
But he will struggle to get more chances to shake that possible rust off after what happened on Saturday evening.
Against Tottenham, Quenda ended the game with the fewest touches for a Chelsea player with 29, while in the whole match, only Omar Marmoush (24) had fewer than those who started, as per FotMob.
The 19-year-old also failed to cause problems in the final third, where he had just one touch in Tottenham's box - the lowest total in the game.
Furthermore, the Chelsea man failed with his only attempted dribble, failed with his only attempted cross, and did not hit a successful long pass in two attempts.
Additionally, no player was dribbled past more times (two) than Quenda was at Stamford Bridge.
The Portuguese forward should and will now find it tough to push his way back into a starting role on a more prominent basis.
This was a great chance to prove himself, and he failed to do so.
Chelsea have plenty of options to turn to instead
The stars may have aligned for Quenda to start against Tottenham, but with a fully fit squad, he may not have been first choice anyway.
Injuries to forwards Jamie Gittens and Emmanuel Emegha limited Alonso's options in those three forward spots.
Meanwhile, the Spaniard will certainly begin thinking about utilising Estevao there in the future.
Quenda has work to do to prove himself, but when that next chance arrives remains to be seen.
