'Hang on a minute' - Transfer expert shares Chelsea problem after Cole Palmer deal agreed
Cole Palmer's new Chelsea contract could raise problems at Stamford Bridge.
That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.
The Blues have nailed down the English international to improved terms, but only slightly increasing the length of his deal.
Palmer was already signed until 2033, with this latest extension now keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2034.
Since signing from Manchester City, Palmer has been Chelsea's talisman.
So the fact he has agreed to fresh terms is a sign that he believes the Blues are heading in the right direction, with one fresh concern now emerging.
Why Cole Palmer contract can cause Chelsea issues
Chelsea have not put Palmer on new terms because his deal is near the end, and far from it.
Instead, they are simply looking to keep their top stars onside, delivering attractive terms to prevent the possibility of them seeking more elsewhere.
However, the new deal for Palmer could now crop up problems from others within the squad, and their agents.
That is at least according to former Premier League scout King.
"Once you've got players like Rogers and all these coming in, and Cole Palmer who just signed a new contract, agents become a bit, oh, hang on a minute, we signed for that and now all of a sudden these players are getting this," King told Football Insider.
"So what's all this about? I thought we were all meant to be on top, top wages, but some have got more than what my player has got."
Chelsea have no immediate contract needs
Chelsea have set themselves up in a way where they do not need to enter contract talks with any of their top stars.
However, they seemingly do so anyway to keep them appeased.
There are no current deals expiring at the end of 2027, while it is only veterans Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson on course to leave in 2028.
The Blues will likely see those two depart as free agents, with their age catching up to them.
But ahead of 2029, that is when new deals may have to be sorted.
Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Josh Acheampong all enter their final year of contract in the 2028-29 season.
With decisions needing to be made on all three.
Emiliano Martinez is the same, but he will be 37 years old by that season.
