'It's a disaster' - Chelsea hit by new '£75m' blow

Chelsea could now miss out on an eye-watering windfall next summer after the latest blow away from Stamford Bridge.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider who has labelled the club's latest injury news a "disaster".

The Blues sent multiple players out on loan during the summer, including Alejandro Garnacho, Dario Essugo and Mykhailo Mudryk, to name a few.

And it is the latter whose current deal with Tottenham Hotspur includes a £75million purchase clause should he impress on the other side of London.

The Ukrainian international has returned to the pitch for the first time in almost two years, having tested positive for meldonium and banned by the FA.

However, his fairytale return has been handed a cruel blow, with the attacker already sidelined for two months with an ankle injury in training.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that the Blues can "forget" about Spurs triggering the purchase option in Mudryk's contract next summer.

"You can forget the £75m. £75m is not a real number. It was always highly, highly unlikely that Spurs would be interested in that option," he said.

"It was just in case somehow he comes back from two years and plays every game incredibly, and Spurs know that they don't have to pay £100m, right?

"But it's a one-way option. Spurs just won't pay it. It's basically irrelevant. If he's out for two months, it's going to be really difficult.

"The injury, obviously, for the player, it's a disaster, but this season just has to be about getting fit and starting to play again.

"It's a long way back from not playing for two years; it must be."

What must Mudryk do to earn permanent Tottenham move?

Mudryk's targets for the 2026-27 campaign have been discussed at length, but only those behind the scenes will know what Spurs expect from him.

Of course, his fitness is the number-one priority, but that is already off to a difficult start after suffering an injury in training at Hotspur Way.

Speaking to Football Insider, Keith Wyness believes that Mudryk will need to, not only score over 10 goals, but also become a playmaker for Roberto De Zerbi's side.

There is no doubt that the 25-year-old has the ability to do so, proven by his time at Shakhtar Donetsk, but he hasn't been himself for years.
