Liam Delap appeared to win back several supporters' trust as Chelsea progressed to the next round of the FA Cup against Wrexham.

Fans have been split on the striker's performances, having notched just two goals and three assists before heading to the SToK Cae Ras on Saturday, 7 March, for the Blues' fifth-round tie.

After bagging three assists against Hull City in the previous round, Delap has been benched against Burnley, Arsenal and Aston Villa, taking a back seat to Joao Pedro's stunning displays.

Chelsea have plans for new striker signings ahead of the summer transfer window, but Delap has now given the hierarchy food for thought after his role in his team's equaliser against the Red Dragons.

Liam Delap makes the difference in Chelsea equaliser vs Wrexham

Wrexham stunned the visitors by taking the lead, but just before the half-time whistle, an Arthur Okonkwo own goal was the end result of a brilliant mazey run from Delap.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, transcribed by BBC Sport (7 March), Chris Sutton gave a special mention to the Blues' No.9, saying: "Just when Wrexham needed a bit of luck, they didn't get it.

I have to say, it is sensational centre-forward play from Liam Delap, takes the ball on the half-way line, rolls Hyam and feeds the ball to Garnacho in acres of space.

"Thomason does really well getting on the line, but his clearance goes straight onto Okonkwo's shoulder, and he can do nothing about it."

The Blues would be taken to extra time, but thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro, Wrexham were eventually shaken off in the fifth round.

Liam Rosenior to take note of Delap's full stats

While Rosenior has been dazzled by Pedro this season, he should not let the Brazilian distract him from just how good a performance it was from Delap.

As well as some superb hold-up play at the SToK Cae Ras, the 23-year-old created two chances, attempted four dribbles, entered into a total of 12 duels and was fouled three times [FotMob].

It was an incredibly difficult night for the striker, especially against a huge Wrexham backline, but the striker made his moments count when he finally got possession of the ball.

Keith Wyness revealed to Football Insider that Everton could sign Delap in the summer, though the new manager may think twice about letting him leave so soon after joining.
