Chelsea: Serious Liam Rosenior concerns, 'influential figures' believe sack imminent

Chelsea sources have revealed that serious concerns are emerging about the future of manager Liam Rosenior.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle United on Saturday, with Anthony Gordon's goal proving to be the difference at Stamford Bridge.

Rosenior only arrived in January to replace Enzo Maresca, but now finds himself under huge pressure after consecutive losses.

The London club have lost significant ground in the race for Champions League football, having won just one of their last five games.

Liam Rosenior in big trouble at Chelsea

Rosenior was warned about the Chelsea dressing room by former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider in January.

The 41-year-old's experience before arriving at Stamford Bridge was with Derby County, Hull City and Strasbourg.

The Englishman produced good results with all three clubs and is clearly a strong tactician, but it is the other parts of such a big job that can prove damaging.

Big personalities need to be dealt with in the right way, and especially at Chelsea, where there is a lack of leadership and experience among the squad.

In recent weeks, Rosenior has appeared to struggle to keep his players' emotions in check, with red cards and big individual mistakes costing his side over and over again.

This week could see Chelsea dumped out of the Champions League if they cannot overturn last week's 5-2 loss to PSG, and it could also see them take a significant blow in the race for the top five if they lose away at Everton.

According to Sacha Tavolieri, some "influential figures" within the Chelsea hierarchy believe Rosenior may no longer be in charge next season amid serious concerns about his ability to lead the club forward.

Chelsea decision-makers continue to pass blame

Rosenior has not enjoyed a great start to his Chelsea tenure. The Blues were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Arsenal, and they look as if they are to be out of the Champions League in the coming days, too.

They remain in the race for the top four, but simply due to the inconsistency of the teams also going for it, rather than their own brilliance.

If the 41-year-old is sacked at the end of the season, he will be just another victim of the Chelsea decision-makers.

Years of prioritising future development over on-field performance have left the Blues with an inexperienced team seriously lacking in leadership.

Sack Rosenior or do not, Chelsea will not see improvement on the pitch until they are ready to adapt off it.
