Xabi Alonso has no plans to let Enzo Fernandez leave Chelsea this summer despite interest in his services from Real Madrid.

Chelsea’s failure to qualify for Europe has raised doubts around the futures of their key players ahead of the summer window.

Fernandez enjoyed a successful 2025-26 campaign from an individual standpoint despite their struggles as a team.

He has attracted interest from Real Madrid in recent weeks, and they are now ahead of Man City in the race for his services.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, new Blues boss Alonso will not allow the Argentina star to leave this summer.

Chelsea are set to demand at least £120million for his services after forking out around £109m to sign him in 2023.

They hope to deter suitors by asking for such a fee, but it remains to be seen if Madrid make a bid for Fernandez’s services soon.

Xabi Alonso to stand firm against Enzo Fernandez exit amid Real Madrid interest

Fernandez carried the Blues through several matches last season, but was dropped from the squad in April after publicly casting doubt on his future.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “If Fernandez is to leave Chelsea, it'll probably be to somewhere else (other than Man City).

“There's been talk of Real Madrid being admirers of him as well. But again, as I said, Chelsea are in no rush to lose him.

“They're hoping that this £120m price tag they've put on his head will maybe scare off a few clubs, and I'm sure Xabi Alonso will be looking to keep hold of Fernandez and build his team around the Argentine international.”

What did Fernandez and his agent say about his Chelsea future?

Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Alonso is planning to overhaul his Chelsea squad as they look to return to the top five next season.

He does not want Fernandez to leave and will likely aim to build his team around the Argentine midfielder.

Back in April, he responded: “I don’t know” when Argentine reporters asked if he wanted to be at Chelsea next season, then went on to say: "I really like Madrid - it's similar to Buenos Aires."

Fernandez was also questioned on whether he would consider living in Madrid, replying: "Yes, of course."
