Stefan Borson hits out at 'sources' Chelsea stadium reveal

Chelsea moving to Wembley Stadium long-term is "not feasible" as part of the club's plans for the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Blues should only need a maximum of three years at the 90,000-seater stadium.

With Clearlake Capital buying out Todd Boehly and Mark Walter, attention has turned to what this could mean for Stamford Bridge.

Stadium plans have always been a subject of tension in West London, but that no longer looks to be an issue with Clearlake now in full control.

As one of the potential solutions, knocking down and rebuilding Stamford Bridge has been suggested, with a move to Wembley in the meantime.

However, sources told the Daily Mail that the estimated timeline for Chelsea's stay at Wembley would be seven to eight years, were they to take this radical approach.

Chelsea plans 'shouldn't take seven or eight years'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has instantly rejected those estimations, saying that it should take no longer than three years.

"I don't see why it would take seven or eight years, first of all. I just don't think that's possible. It's not feasible, to be honest," he said.

"If you look at the planning and the local residents and the costs, it's not feasible to do it over five, seven years; you need to do it more quickly.

"So I don't think it'd be that amount of time. But it would definitely be two years, at least, and probably even three years."

Tottenham Hotspur played their home games at Wembley between August 2017 and April 2019, basically moving for two entire seasons while waiting on the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What other solutions have Chelsea got?

Moving their home to Wembley is not the only idea being floated by senior figures in West London, and understandably so.

It is understood that remodelling the current stadium has been ruled out, with a stand-by-stand upgrade not being seen as worthwhile.

Borson has repeatedly ruled out building on Earl's Court, but insiders at Stamford Bridge are adamant that this option remains on the table.

Compared to their Premier League rivals, the Blues certainly need to make improvements, but Clearlake won't be rushing into anything.
