Chelsea will surely be regretting that they did not push harder to sign Alex Scott from Bournemouth in the summer after his excellent displays this season led to an England call-up.
The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Blues after he rejected a contract extension at the Cherries.
Chelsea even saw multiple bids rejected for the 23-year-old as they were unable to secure the signing.
Now, Xabi Alonso’s side have clearly missed out on a quality player, with Scott putting in another wonderful performance in Bournemouth’s 2-1 victory away to Real Sociedad on Thursday.
The youngster picked up an assist as they secured a memorable victory in their first-ever European match.
On top of this, Scott has now been selected in the England squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.

Against the Spanish side, Scott was easily one of the best players on the pitch.
The midfielder proved to be key to a vital three points, and his stats from the match were fantastic.
According to Fotmob, he completed 77 per cent of his passes, created two chances, created one big chance, had a 0.24 xA, had two shots, had four passes into the final third and won 10 out of 17 ground duels.
Therefore, not only was Scott fantastic in attack, but he also heavily helped out defensively.
As a result, Chelsea will be kicking themselves that they did not secure the signing last month.
The Blues are already short on a midfielder after Enzo Fernandez departed, and a player like Scott would have been a perfect replacement.
Now, if they choose to go back in for the rising star, they will likely have to pay even more money to get a deal over the line.
When could Scott make his England debut?
England are set to play four fixtures in the upcoming international break.
Their first match will be at home against Spain on 26 September, before they travel to face Czechia on 29 September.
Another away day follows on 3 October when they face Croatia before the Three Lions host Czechia on 6 October.
Scott could play in any of these matches, and is likely to play in at least one as he looks to make his senior England debut.
