Liam Rosenior is faced with an impossible situation, thanks to his selection of goalkeepers at Chelsea.

Filip Jorgensen was trusted between the sticks for the Blues' defeat to PSG on Wednesday, 11 March, but it was revealed by Peter Schmeichel during the game that he had emerged as the manager's first choice.

Robert Sanchez had been the first choice for the majority of the 2025-26 campaign, but with the Spaniard capable of some quite spectacular mistakes, a new goalkeeper is a top priority this summer.

Chelsea transfer plans are a huge talking point at Stamford Bridge, especially with Rosenior now in charge in West London, and the 41-year-old will be desperate for a new shot-stopper.

Liam Rosenior has a trick position to solve this summer

For a team trying to grow and build into a title-winning squad, the goalkeeper position is massively worrying, and one that should be addressed as soon as the summer transfer window opens.

Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Mike Maignan of AC Milan and Sunderland's Robin Roefs, but thankfully for Rosenior, he has a much easier fix, one that doesn't require any major spending.

The manager was able to work with many of the club's biggest up-and-coming talents during his spell at Strasbourg, and one of them is likely to have made a huge impact on him.

Strasbourg's Mike Penders now has nine clean sheets in 37 appearances this season, on loan from Chelsea for the 2025-26 campaign, and he has now proven his worth to the Blues.

Mike Penders can be Chelsea's saviour next season

Penders is yet to make a single appearance for the Premier League giants, having signed from Genk in 2024, but that could quickly change after working closely with the new Chelsea boss.

It would not be a surprise to see him follow in the footsteps of Man United's Senne Lammens, who also arrived in England from a Belgian club, and has since hit the ground running in the top tier of English football.

Chelsea's loanee would certainly offer a lot more confidence behind the current defence. Rosenior just has to admit that Penders is a better choice than Sanchez or Jorgensen.

The majority of supporters at Stamford Bridge have already done that. But the manager will have to make a huge call once the summer transfer window opens.
