Chris Sutton severely mocks Rangers ahead of Old Firm derby

By Amir Mir

Chris Sutton has severely mocked Rangers ahead of the Old Firm clash on Saturday by stating that if Celtic beat them then”the biggest derby” for the Gers will be against Partick Thistle.

Mark Warburton’s side welcome the Bhoys to Ibrox for a highly-anticipated lunchtime game in the Scottish Premiership.

Brendan Rodgers men are unbeaten in domestic competitions this season as they have already beaten their Glasgow rivals on two occasions this term.

Former Celtic striker Sutton did not hold back when assessing what will happen to Warburton’s side if they lose again at the weekend.

“I think Rangers are backtracking,” Sutton told BT Sport.

“Do you know what if Celtic beat Rangers the biggest derby or the most relevant derby for Rangers will be against Partick Thistle because they will be closer points wise.”

Partick Thistle are sixth in the SPL table on 21 points from their 20 games, 18 points behind the Gers who are in second.

A win for the away side on Saturday could seem them open up a 19 point lead on their bitter rivals, with a game in hand.

Rodgers side have won 18 of their 19 league games, including lifting the Scottish League Cup in November.

They beat Rangers on their way to lifting the domestic trophy, but their most emphatic win against their rivals was in September when Celtic claimed a 5-1 win on home soil.

The home team go into this fixture having won 11 games this season, but they dropped points on Wednesday when St Johnstone held them to a 1-1 draw.
