Christian Pulisic facing Chelsea exit as crunch Thomas Tuchel talks planned - pundit

Christian Pulisic could be facing the axe at Chelsea this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to put his own stamp on the team, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 23-year-old is “not consistent enough” when he gets an opportunity in the Blues side.

According to Fabrizio Romano for CaughtOffside (23 May), Pulisic is set for showdown talks with Tuchel in order to discuss his Stamford Bridge future.

The USA international, who is under contract until June 2024, notched just eight goals and five assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

Pulisic made just 13 starts in the Premier League as Chelsea limped to a third-place finish after a strong start.

Whelan claimed the former Dortmund man could be a “casualty” as Tuchel looks to the transfer market this summer.

“Pulisic can be a game-winner for Chelsea,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“But that being said, he doesn’t play an awful lot of football – and when he does, he’s not consistent enough. He’s not Thomas Tuchel’s first choice.

“I think there’ll be a lot of changes at Chelsea this summer. This still isn’t Tuchel’s side – and he’ll want the opportunity to bring his own faces in.

“Pulisic could be a casualty of that. They’ll be looking to sign an upgrade, I’m sure – and they need to if they’re going to challenge Liverpool or Man City next season.”

Pulisic cost Chelsea a reported £58million in 2019 – a fee which made him the most expensive American player of all time.

He has netted 25 goals in 115 games for the Londoners.
