Clive Allen: Tottenham should sign these two PL stars, both reportedly available for free

Clive Allen has urged Mauricio Pochettino to sign former Tottenham stars Michael Carrick and Jermain Defoe to boost Spurs’ title hopes next season.
Spurs suffered a huge blow in the race for the Premier League trophy on Friday night, after losing to West Ham at the London Stadium.
Allen believes Pochettino’s side need experience ahead of next season and is adamant that both Carrick and Defoe would provide that quality if signed in the summer transfer window.
Speaking to talkSPORT on Saturday, former Spurs star Allen believes Carrick’s winning mentality would boost Spurs, while Defoe would give the north London outfit needed depth.
“Ironically for me it would be someone like Michael Carrick,” Allen said. “He’s been through everything – has had some tough times at Manchester United but won things there. He’s a real solid professional who I think could be a massive influence on the group.

“There also needs to be more strength in depth and Jermain Defoe would be another fantastic addition.
“At this stage in his career he knows he won’t play every game, but he’s in great shape and he has a fantastic attitude and I certainly wouldn’t deny that he would be a great addition to the squad.”
Carrick is set to be available on a free transfer in the summer, with his contract at Jose Mourinho’s United about to expire in less than two months.
The Daily Mail also claim that Defoe can leave Sunderland on a free transfer in the summer, after it was confirmed that David Moyes’ side will be relegated to the Championship.
Spurs suffered a loss to the Hammers on Friday, after Argentinian playmaker Manuel Lanzini struck midway through the second half to earn all three points for Slaven Bilic’s side.
Allen’s former side can still win the Premier League title come May, if they reduce the four-point deficit to Chelsea at the top with only three games still to play.
All eyes will now turn to Stamford Bridge on Monday night, as league leaders Chelsea go up against relegation threatened Middlesbrough.
