English Championship outfit Cardiff have made a surprise last-ditch attempt to sign Celtic winger Jonny Hayes before Thursday’s transfer deadline, according to a report.
Football news outlet TeamTalk have claimed via their website that the Welsh side have told the Hoops that they are willing to take the 30-year-old right-winger on loan just weeks after his signing.
It is said that Cardiff have tried to pick up the Republic of Ireland international in January and then again in the summer before he opted on a move to Parkhead.
However, following Celtic’s signing of Patrick Roberts, the Bluebirds are now looking to see whether Hayes is available once more and it is even detailed that the Hoops are considering their offer.
It would certainly be a surprise if Hayes doe leave Celtic after just two months at the club following his signing from Aberdeen for £1million in June.
He has also played in eight matches in all competitions for the Hoops since his move, but he has returned just one assist in a 5-0 League Cup victory over Kilmarnock.
Football Insider verdict:
Hayes was always a weird signing for Celtic given his age as well as ability. At 30 the winger is past his peak and is not going to improve. The Hoops have brought in many young players since Brendan Rodgers took over and while they brought in the likes of Kolo Toure, who has experience of playing at the top level Hayes simply has not reached those heights through his career. He’s also not the type of player who was going to help Celtic progress in the Champions League and it wouldn’t be too much of a shock to see Hayes leave Glasgow without pulling up trees in the future. However, it would present a very poor piece of business if Celtic let him go after just two months.
