Clubs queuing up to sign 'amazing' Archer in January after Aston Villa latest

Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer has put Championship clubs on “red alert” ahead of January.

That is the view of former Claret and Blue Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “amazing” 19-year-old’s performance in mid-week.

Archer scored a hat-trick on Tuesday as Villa’s Under-21s beat Burton Albion 4-2 in the EFL Trophy.

In his five senior appearances for Dean Smith’s side, the teenager has scored four goals.

Birmingham Live reported on September 23rd that a loan move is “likely” for the young striker in the January window.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Archer’s form, Phillips said: “I think Championship clubs will be on red alert.

“I was very impressed with what I saw in the Chelsea game last month.

“He is an amazing young talent. I cannot see Villa letting him leave on loan though. I know they have [Danny] Ings and [Ollie] Watkins but if one of those gets injured, you would bring him in.

“The kid is a huge talent. What a performance he put in against Burton Albion. I know they’re a League One side but to score four goals in any game is brilliant.

“If I am a Championship club, someone like a West Brom, I would be knocking on the door. He would be a massive signing for a top Championship club in January. It will be interesting to see what happens.”
