Bruce confirms two Aston Villa players racing against time for fitness v Sunderland
Aston Villa head to Sunderland on Tuesday night in the Championship with a chance to keep up the pressure on Cardiff City and Wolves in the automatic promotion spots.
However, it is looking as though if they are going to do that then they will have to manage without Alan Hutton who is struggling and is a huge doubt due to a hamstring problem, while there continues to be question marks over Jack Grealish who has missed the last few games with a calf problem.
The Black Cats are rock bottom of the league, four points adrift, and look nailed on for the drop – anything other than a win will be considered a failure by Steve Bruce’s side.
As quoted in the Birmingham Mail, Steve Bruce delivered the latest update on the duo and said: “Alan Hutton (hamstring) is the biggest doubt but we’re just waiting on Jack Grealish (calf). He’s the main one but everyone else is ok.”
Football Insider verdict:
Despite a win against Sheffield Wednesday last time out in the league, without Grealish Villa are a different prospect altogether. Creatively they have no clue without their midfield maestro which could be a struggle against a Chris Coleman side who are struggling for their league survival, and likely to defend in numbers. With the 22-year-old on board the Claret and Blues would stroll to victory – without him, it will be a tough game.
