Confirmed: Sporting great tells Leeds player he wants to be at Elland Road
By Alex Stevens
Champion golfer Sergio Garcia has become a Leeds devotee and is keen to to visit Elland Road as soon as possible.
The revelation about the newly crowned Masters champion was made by Pablo Hernandez, who is the brother-in-law of the global sporting great.
Hernandez spoke to fellow Spaniard Garcia on Monday less than 24 hours after he won golf’s biggest prize, The Masters, at Augusta.
Garcia, 37, beat Englishman Justin Rose in a play-off to secure the first major championship triumph of his career after many previous near-misses.
His victory capped a memorable weekend for the Hernandez, who was outstanding as Leeds put Preston to the sword with a 3-0 win at Elland Road.

The 32-year-old scored his fifth league goal of the season, which have been supplemented by eight assists in the competition for the promotion chasers.
“It was an amazing weekend for me and my family, we won the three points and on Sunday night we all watched Sergio win The Masters,” Hernandez told the official Leeds website.
“The fans should know Sergio follows a lot of Leeds United and now we just need the club to reach the Premier League and it will be a perfect year for us.
“Maybe we will see him at Elland Road, I hope this will happen, he told me a while ago if he had a chance he will come and watch a game, so it is possible.”
Leeds’ victory against Preston cemented their place in the play-off spots as the likelihood grows that their campaign will be extended until late May.
Garry Monk’s side head to Newcastle on Friday night at fifth place in the league aiming to increase their 72-point tally and nail down a top-six finish.
In other Leeds news, the club have sealed an out-of-window midfielder transfer.
