Leeds United manager Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed that attacking star Kemar Roofe looks set to out with a long-term injury after two scans delivered differing results.
The 25-year-old winger, who has been utilised as a centre forward at times, has made 33 appearances this season and scored 12 goals across all competitions, but has been missing for the Whites’ last four games after picking up a foot injury in the 2-2 draw with Derby County.
There had been doubts over just how serious the blow was, but weeks on from him being laid off, confusion still reigns as two separate medical tests revealed contradicting accounts, with the manager confirming to Leeds Live that the forward was set to be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future in what will be a major bombshell for the rest of the season.
Leeds take on Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, looking for what would be only their second win of 2018, and are looking to exact revenge over the Owls after losing 3-0 in the reverse fixture at Hillsborough.
Football Insider verdict
While Roofe might have been slammed by members of the Elland Road crowd for his performances this season, he still stands as the club’s top scorer this season, two ahead of Pierre-Michel Lasogga. Having him out of action for a few weeks was bad enough, but now to hear that they are not certain just how bad the injury is, and that he is a long-term layoff with an indefinite return date is a huge blow. Heckingbottom will hope that the likes of Caleb Ekuban, who has just one goal under his belt this season, can step up to the plate in his absence.
