Confirmed: Liverpool smash club transfer record as five-year deal finalised
By North-west correspondent Alex Stevens
Liverpool have completed the signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton for a club-record fee, it was announced on Tuesday.
The two clubs announced simultaneously on their official Twitter accounts that Mane had finalised a transfer from St Mary’s Stadium to Anfield.
Neither Liverpool or Southampton disclosed the cost of the transfer fee for the 24-year-old winger, which has been speculated at between £30million and £38.5million over the last 48 hours.
Pointedly, Southampton claimed in a statement that Mane had cost the Merseysiders a “club-record fee”.

A fee of over £35million would make Mane the most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, ahead of Andy Carroll, who joined for that sum in January 2011, and Christian Benteke, who cost £32.5million from Aston Villa.

Mane was pictured on Merseyside on Monday entering a hospital to undertake medical examinations before he was due to negotiate personal terms with Liverpool chiefs.
The Senegal international will become Liverpool’s fourth signing over the summer after Joel Matip (free from Schalke), Marko Grujic, whose £5m switch from Red Star Belgrade was agreed in January, and goalkeeper Loris Karius from Mainz.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the Merseysiders have tabled a £7million bid for a Premier League wonderkid.
