Confirmed Liverpool line-up: Coutinho returns as Klopp makes eight changes

By Dominic Toner

Liverpool have made eight changes to their starting XI against Southampton in the EFL Cup semi-final.

The Merseyside club travel to Southampton for the first leg of their semi-final and will be hoping to take a good result back to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp has decided to make eight alterations to his team from the side that drew 0-0 with Plymouth in the FA Cup on Sunday, with Loris Karius, Lucas and Emre Can the only survivors.

Liverpool have announced their starting line-up on their official Twitter account.

Philippe Coutinho is back in the matchday squad after his lengthy absence through injury and has made the bench.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Alberto Moreno, Kevin Stewart, Ovie Ejaria, Sheyi Ojo, Divock Origi and Ben Woodburn has been dropped.

Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, Ragnar Klavan, James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Adam Lallana, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge have been recalled to the starting XI.

Liverpool will be hoping to make the EFL Cup final for the second consecutive year under Klopp after reaching the same stage last season.

The Reds were narrowly defeated by Manchester City on penalties in the final and also lost to Sevilla in the Europa League final.

Liverpool have bounced back strongly this season and have been in fine form in the league, with the club currently second-placed in the Premier League table.

The Merseyside club have already come through some tough fixtures this season in the EFL Cup, beating Leeds, Tottenham, Derby and Burton en route to the semi-finals.

Klopp is clearly desperate for his first trophy as the Reds manager and could take a big step towards that with a victory in the first leg over Southampton.
