Conor Gallagher rejected Aston Villa move after Chelsea had accepted a bid from them in June, sources have told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old has agreed terms with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, who will more than double his wages to £200,000-a-week.

Chelsea twice offered Gallagher a new two-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months – once after accepting Villa’s offer and again after Atletico’s bid had been accepted.

Gallagher now looks set to become the latest Chelsea academy product to leave the club as they seek to ease any potential PSR issues.

Omari Hutchinson, Lewis Hall, and Ian Maatsen, who accepted a move to Aston Villa, have all left the club this transfer window, and more look set to follow.

Villa moved on quickly and secured the signing of Belgium international Amadou Onana from Everton for a fee of £50 million.

Conor Gallagher didn't want Aston Villa move

Aston Villa have been busy so far this window as they seek to bolster their squad ahead of their Champions League campaign.

The Premier League giants have managed to bring in a total of eight new first-team players including the re-signings of Jaden Philogene and Cameron Archer.

Gallagher has been a mainstay at Chelsea following his successful loan at Crystal Palace but has been deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Enzo Maresca and his staff.

After joining the club as an 8-year-old, Gallagher has gone on to make 95 appearances and score 10 goals for his boyhood club.

The midfielder was also named captain on several occasions last season in the absence of the injured Reece James.
