Juventus have started talks with the representatives of Liverpool midfielder Emre Can over a possible summer switch to Italy, according to a report.

Sky Sports Italy correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his personal website that Juve have identified the 23-year-old as one of three midfield targets.

It is believed that Can joins Lyon’s Corentin Tolisso and Monaco’s Fabinho in interesting the Old Lady, who are set to face Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday.

Juve are confident that they can bring the Germany international to Turin in a cut-price deal, as the former Bayer Leverkusen star’s contract expires in 12 months.

That could see Liverpool sell the versatile ace in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer this time next year.

Liverpool’s number 23 has been integral to the Merseyside giants campaign this term, following captain Jordan Henderson’s struggles with a foot injury.

It has seen Can make 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and adding three assists for the Reds including a sublime overhead kick against Watford in a 1-0 win.

However, it remains to be seen if Can will remain in a red shirt ahead of the 2017-18 campaign despite helping Liverpool qualify for the Champions League this season.

Football Insider verdict:

Although he is often criticised, Can is a crucial player to have at a club because he can play in a number of positions. Able to play on the right side of the defence or at centre-back, Can has proven he is equally adept at the base of the midfield or in a more attacking role that has seen him find the back of the net five times. Keeping him in the side would give manager Jurgen Klopp options next season in terms of flexibility in who to choose and what formation to play.
