Liverpool have made contact with PSV over the possibility of signing forward Hirving Lozano, according to a report.

The Daily Star claims that the Reds are ready to go into a potential bidding war with Arsenal over Lozano, 22, as they look to bolster their attack forces in the January transfer window.

It is understood that the Mexico international is worth a staggering £42million after only signing a six-year deal with PSV in the summer, however that has not deterred Anfield manager Jurgen Klopp.

If Liverpool were to complete a swoop for Lozano at that asking price, it would take their January spending over £110million after they agreed a deal to sign Southampton's Virgil van Dijk for £75million on Wednesday.

Lozano has been in hot form in the Dutch Eredivise this season with the wide-forward proving to be prolific in front of goal.

The ex-Pachuca star has scored 13 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions while also supplying seven assists.

Football Insider verdict

Liverpool do not really need to spend more money on their attack, unless one of Klopp's current stars leaves Anfield in January. Lozano can play on both sides of the attack so would fit perfectly into Liverpool's system, but if he was signed, someone will be axed from the first-team, but no one at the moment seems like they should be dropped out. Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino are all in good form and their back-up options are also solid. Lozano would not be able to break into that front three as it stands so it would be a big waste of £42million if they were to snap him up.
