Contact made: Newcastle make late approach for Euro goal machine - report
By Harvey Byrne
Newcastle have made contact with Besiktas over the availability of star striker Cenk Tosun alongside Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, according to a report.
The Daily Mail have claimed via their live transfer blog (Wednesday 3.06pm) that the Magpies and the Eagles have “asked” about the 26-year-old Turkey international, who bagged a stunning 24 goals in 47 matches in all competitions last season.
There are currently question marks over the future of Magpies forward Dwight Gayle and it is reported that the north east giants may look to sell him in order to raise funds for a further new signing.
Tosun could be one that Newcastle are eyeing to replace the Englishman with the forward boasting a stunning scoring record in Turkey.
Since moving to Besiktas from Gaziantepspor in 2014 the two-time title winner has bagged a fine 52 goals in 122 matches in total.

He does however have just two years remaining on his contract and Newcastle may feel a deal can be done for Tosun within their price range.
Football Insider verdict:
Tosun would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle and would certainly be a big upgrade on Gayle, who has so far struggled to make the step up to the Premier League. The Turkey international boasts a stunning scoring record for a big European giant club like Besiktas and if he can continue playing at the same level in England then he could be the difference between survival or not for Newcastle. One problem however is that with just over 24 hours remaining of the current transfer window the Magpies must ensure they can seal a deal up for the goal machine quickly.
In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies have also made a last-gasp approach for this Serie A enforcer.
