Contact made: PL newcomers enquire over West Ham fringe player - report
By Will Butcher
Huddersfield have enquired over the availability of West Ham striker Ashley Fletcher ahead of a potential season-long loan move, according to a report.
The Mirror claim Huddersfield boss David Wagner is a keen admirer of Fletcher, having tried to sign him from Man United before the 21-year-old opted to move to the London Stadium.
It is believed that the Terriers also attempted to sign Fletcher on loan in January and are now set to re-enter the market for the Hammers forward after gaining promotion on Monday.
The report also stated that Huddersfield are not alone in their pursuit of Fletcher, with Championship big hitters Middlesbrough, Fulham and Norwich also keen.
Last season, Fletcher managed just three starts in all competitions for Slaven Bilic’s side as the Croat preferred the likes of Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew and Michail Antonio up front.

The former Barnsley loanee did manage one goal in a 4-1 League Cup loss to Jose Mourinho’s United, as he bundled the ball home to score a consolation against his old side.
Fletcher has three years remaining on the four-year deal he signed in east London last summer, but could now be ready to jump ship for the entire 2017-18 season to gain first-team football.
Football Insider verdict:
A move to Huddersfield, or indeed any of three interested Championship sides, will come as a benefit to all parties involved. West Ham would benefit by allowing the young striker to move on loan as they would see their striker gain experience and develop into a better player, upon his return to the London Stadium. Huddersfield would be receiving a player that is keen to prove Bilic he deserves first-team football in claret and blue and that will drive him on to succeed at the John Smith’s Stadium. For Fletcher himself, his value is likely to increase if he can find the back of the net for the Terriers, as Wagner looks to keep the Yorkshire giants in the top tier of English football.
In other West Ham transfer news, the Hammers are set to rival Everton for this Bundesliga attacker.
