Tottenham will not pay over the odds in January and will therefore have to wait until the end of the transfer window to complete any deals, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Antonio Conte may have been promised £100million but will not be "bullied into overspending".

As quoted by football.london on Monday (3 January), Conte admitted he was not expecting any business to be done soon despite the window now being open.

The Italian revealed he is set for talks with club chiefs where they can discuss options before he adds bodies to his squad.

Conte has enjoyed an unbeaten start in the Premier League and Tottenham have now climbed to sixth and could enter the top four if they win their games in hand.

Asked whether Spurs need to add to their squad in January, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "I think they do.

"But I'm sure Spurs have never been a team that are going to pay over the odds for players.

"He will have been promised money. Let's say he's promised £100million, he's not going to pay £60million or a player that is worth £30million.

"Conte won't be bullied into overspending and buying players for more than they are worth. I'm sure he'll sign players when the time is right."

Spurs added Bryan Gil and Emerson Royal to the squad in the summer transfer window.

Atalanta duo Pierluigi Gollini and Christian Romero both arrived on loan deals that have an option to become permanent at the end of the season.
