Cooper and 'brilliant' teammate have handed Leeds 'absolutely huge boost' pre-Tottenham

Leeds United stars Liam Cooper and Rodrigo will have been handed an “absolutely huge” confidence boost after their success during the international break, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Whites striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the duo will head back into domestic football in a “really positive mindset” having triumphed away with their nations.

Cooper played 90 minutes as Scotland secured their World Cup qualifying play-off spot with a 2-0 win in Moldova on Friday.

The Leeds United captain has played every Premier League minute this season.

He was brought into the eleven by manager Steve Clarke after a spell on the bench for Scotland.

Rodrigo came off the bench for Spain as they secured their place at the 2022 showpiece against Sweden.

Whelan heaped praise on Cooper for his “brilliant” performance in Chisinau.

He also insisted the duo’s success will be a “massive boost” ahead of the trip to Tottenham this Sunday.

“It will be absolutely huge,” Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“Any positive result will be a massive boost, especially when you play the role Cooper did in Scotland’s success.

“I watched the game and thought he was brilliant at the back. He really stepped up after time out of the side and helped them to a massive win.

“It will only give the players confidence and that extra boost in morale coming into the domestic side as well. The same goes for Rodrigo, he’s forcing his way back into that Spain side.

“Off the back of such a high these players will head back into their games with Leeds in a really positive mindset. That could be important.”
