Helder Costa has played his last game for Leeds United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed the arrival of Dan James means Costa is surplus to requirements at Elland Road.

Costa joined Valencia on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy on deadline day.

He could still return to Yorkshire at the end of the season but he has no long-term future at the club.

Costa has four years left to run on his Whites contract but Costa and his representatives believe he is better suited to La Liga and the Portuguese leagues.

He featured 22 times in the Premier League last term but failed to nail down a regular place in the starting XI.

Asked whether Leeds were making the right decision, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "100 per cent.

"That will be his last game.

"Dan James has come in that adds to the wingers.

"Helder Costa had his chance and didn't perform. If they could have sold him, they would have. Hopefully, they will want to get rid of him next summer when the loan is done.

"They've got Dan James in now so I'm sure they don't think that Costa is coming back."

Costa last featured for Leeds against Crewe Alexandra in the Carabao Cup last month.

He has scored eight times and provided 11 assists in 71 games across all competitions for the Yorkshire giants.
