'Could Be A Great Addition' - Exclusive: Pundit reacts to Insider's West Ham transfer reveal

Kevin Campbell claims Blackburn Rovers striker Adam Armstrong “could be a great addition” for West Ham but warns he is “very different” to Michail Antonio.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 23-year-old would cost “big money” this month and suggested David Moyes pursue other targets.

The Hammers are hoping to sign a new centre-forward before the transfer deadline after Sebastien Haller was sold to Ajax in a £20million deal earlier this month.

Renowned Irons insider ExWHUemployee has claimed on his West Ham Way podcast David Moyes could make a move for Championship top-scorer Adam Armstrong – he has netted 16 times in 23 league appearances this season.

The former Newcastle United striker has just 18 months left on his contract at Ewood Park and would prove a cheaper alternative to Sevilla’s £35million-rated Youssef En-Nesyri.

When asked by Football Insider if Armstrong would be a smart addition at the London Stadium, Campbell said: “Michail Antonio is the main guy at West Ham now.

“If you bring another striker in for big money, he will have to be able to play another position. You would not spend big money to have a player warm the bench.

“Antonio has been their star man and when he is not there they struggle at times. He causes defences a lot of problems with his pace and power.

“Armstrong could be a great addition but he is very different to Antonio. They need somebody who can be an understudy type.”

In other news, Darren Bent has claimed clubs will be queuing up to sign a newly-available West Ham star.
