Coutinho could lure Suarez to Aston Villa after confirmed news in last 48 hours - pundit

Aston Villa may be able to lure Luis Suarez to the club at the end of the season if they convert Philippe Coutinho’s loan deal into a permanent move.

That is the view of ex-Leeds United and England defender Danny Mills, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about a potential deal for the legendary striker.

As quoted by the Express on Friday (21 January), Steven Gerrard hailed his former Liverpool teammate as “world-class” but ruled out a move for any striker in the January window.

Birmingham Live‘s Ashley Preece reported the same day the deal could happen in the summer when Suarez’s Atletico Madrid contract expires.

The 34-year-old has scored seven times in 13 La Liga starts this term but he last found the net in the league at the beginning of November.

Asked for his verdict on Suarez linking up with Gerrard at Villa Park, Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “If Coutinho stays, why not?

“Again, it’s the pull of Steven Gerrard that will be huge.

“It might just be a one or two-year deal for Luis Suarez but he’s a brilliant player that has still got an eye for goal.

“If he’s fit enough and can do a job, I’d take him.”

Suarez scored 69 times and contributed 39 assists in 110 Premier League appearances during his time at Liverpool.

He moved on to Barcelona in the summer of 2013 before signing for Atletico at the beginning of last season and winning La Liga last season.
